Transportation is a hot topic at the moment because we’ve almost arrived in the future. Electric cars and self-driving cars are hitting the streets in droves. We are talking about different transport methods such as building underground one car length tunnels for faster point A to point B travel, high-speed rail and short-haul flights. All of these things are becoming more popular for one reason. They help us with the cost of transport. If you’re someone who realizes they are spending far too much on transport, you should give some of these money-saving methods a try.
A short ride
Once upon a time, people traveled to everyone on bicycles. What happened? Cars became abundant and it’s just more comfortable to get in a heated vehicle to get to work. But it will cost you more. If you live 2-3 miles from work, why don’t you buy a riding helmet, some thermals and ride to work instead? At an average speed of around 15mph, it will take you just 5 minutes to do 1 mile. It depends on how long you are driving for but taking into account stopping for red lights, stuck in traffic and having to drive slowly due to road conditions, you’re going to save around $1-2000 every year just on fuel costs. Not to mention, you will be saving money due to arriving to work on time. So if you live a few miles from work, buy a bicycle and leave the car for weekends only.
A longer ride
If you’re single or have a small car purely for the commute into work, you’re paying for many unnecessary costs. Firstly, it’s just you in the car, so you’re really dragging around extra weight. You’re also having to pay for car insurance, testing and maintenance. It’s better to sell the car and get a motorbike. Depending on the displacement size of the motorbike, you will be saving thousands of dollars every year. Laws have also changed in favor of motorcyclists so negligent drivers will be heavily penalized in court if you are one of the many motorcycle accident victims. This is not a given however, you need to hire a good lawyer who can get the most out of these modern laws to win you the largest amount of compensation. This will save you money on medical bills, days off work and repairs to your motorbike.
The contemporary options
If you live in the city, there are plenty of modern options for your commuting or traveling needs. Electric scooters and skateboards are very practical and efficient means of transportation. The batteries charge in less than or just over an hour yet last for many miles. The average cost of one of these machines is less than half a thousand dollars. Their fast-charge capability also means you can charge your foldable transport, while at work.
It’s not that we can’t ride into work, it’s just that we’ve become complacent. Stop taking the easy yet financially straining option and get a bicycle or motorbike for your commuting needs.
